Certain types of bacteria are resident on the skin. P. acnes is found on most skin but in acne prone individuals the P. acnes grows uncontrollably. The growth of the P. acnes is aided by the anaerobic conditions created by the plug of dead cells and oils within the skin pores. The bacteria digest the oil within the pores and produces a waste product. This waste product irritates the pore walls causing inflammation.
Many teenagers who suufer from this condition also suffer from some loss of self confidence as they see the invasion of their bodies by these strangers. Acne vulgaris can be on the face, chest and back. While the chest and back can be covered, the face obviously can't be without raising questions. Combine the redness usually associated with the pimples and you get a very interesting picture that can discourage many a strong heart.
The best would be benzoyl peroxide, better if combined with a little bit of salicylic acid. This medication kill acne causing bacteria. Benzoyl peroxide is a strong medication. Expect dryness and rashes to occur after you use them. Use as instructed on the labels. Products that contain only sulfur, salicylic acid or triclosan is not as effective as benzoyl peroxide-based products. Take note.
